Saab cup holder in 240 the saga continues 200 91

Well, I got all the parts for the Saab coin/cup holder Volvo 240 conversion and started to put everything together. It was considerably more involved than fitting the Saab cup holder into a 760. I had to modify the lower dash compartment into a support for the cup holder. I cut the back off of the compartment and fitted two 1x0.5 pieces of wood to support the weight of a filled cup being in the cup holder into the compartment with Marine sealant and 2 small screws.

Next I had to remove some superfluous tabs off of the Saab cup holder and sand the back support so it could fit through the lower dash stereo install plate (from Crutchfield).

Luckily I had an extra lower dash mount and compartment to work with to get everything right. When everything was installed in the 240 (not sure what you’d do if you need the amp on the back of the lower dash compartment) it looks pretty smooth.

As far as function it works well for a regular can of soda but the shifter gets in the way. I figure the next step will be to modify the cup holder it self to somehow swing out to the side instead of just forward. Below is a link to some pictures of the process and the finished product. All for a cup of coffee, go figure.

Hey looking at that last picture I now know where those 2 extra screws are supposed to go.
