We've sold our 1995 Ford Taurus. What a relief! About 5 years ago, in a period of mental lapse, I bought a '95 Taurus when I couldn't find a good Volvo for sale. It must have been the nice red color and all the bells and whistles, or the moon or something. It was nearly new (10K mi.). We've actually gotten better service from this car than many other Taurus owners. We only replaced the head gaskets 3 times, the speedometer, the ignition switch, and a motor mount, all in 80,000 miles. In fairness, I must say that Ford extended the warranty on the head gaskets and covered that cost. The car always started and ran very well, had a strong engine, got good mileage, and never stranded us. This is better than many have experienced with this car. I always worried about the transmission.
We replaced it with a neighbor's 1988 240 DL with only 102,000 miles on it, a new clutch and timing belt, near new tires, no rust, and very clean condition. It has the 5-speed manual tranny and I was able to get the filler plug out to check the oil in the tranny. I plan to put synthetic lube in the engine, tranny, differential, and steering rack. I'll also replaced the brake fluid with fresh DOT 4. The PO kept all repair records, changed the oil every 3000 miles and generally kept pretty good care of it. I won't have much to do to fix a few little things on it. I trust this car so much more than the Ford! It feels really good not to have the "Sword of Ford" hanging over my head!
