Struts 200 1984

Replaced the stuts, strut mounts, ball joints and wheel bearings. Did not have any noise in the front end before I started, but now that I am done the front end sounds like it is falling apart when I drive over bumps. Sounds like the nut that holds the strut insert in the tube is loose, so I tightened it, still the same. Gave up so I took it to a tire place that said yes the nut is loose. I watched the guy tighten it, was using a lot of force. Finally said he could not get it tight enough so it would be 200 bucks for him to take it apart and tighten it without the spring pressure. He says the nut should be flush on the strut tube, (not how it looked when I took it off). I said no thanks, so I went home and took the whole thing apart again and the spring pressure doesn't make a differance, the nut is tight and I don't know what else to do. The nut is so tight that it is bending from being tightened. Anyone have any input as to why this simple job is being so difficult? Thanks

Doug
