Synthetic Oil - Side Effects ? 900 1993

Hello, I think I read in the FAQs that Mobil 1 oil can tend to find small leaks, such as around engine seals. This is one reason why I have not changed to synthetic oil. Is this really an issue, and are there any other side effects?

My 93 940 turbo has 162K miles, and compression and cylinder leakage tests resulted as "not bad", or fairly good for that mileage. A volvo dealer, however, said I needed new engine & transmission seals, but a couple other mechanics disagreed. Synthetic oil came to mind because I'm starting to get some lifter noise (I think), and another thread here discussed that issue for a 960.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Steve H
