pleaseohplease what is the spark gap on a B28F? 200 80

i was putting new plugs in my girlfriend's 260 GLE tonite. never mind what a PITA that was, but anyway... the old AC Delco's in there were at about 0.40-0.45 in. or about 1.0-1.1 mm. the Denso U-grooves i got were pre-gapped at 0.29 in. or about 0.8 mm. not knowing the recommended gap, i only opened the Denso's up to 0.30 in. i figured too small would be better than too big. well, the car would barely idle; i almost didn't make it around the block. new dist. cap, too. can too small a gap really affect the engine so drastically? does anyone understand the physics behind this phenomenon? i only ever thought about going too big, and not having the potential to jump a big gap. plus, i went small, but figured that the U-groove would at least leave room for a bigger flame kernel. nope, barely fires. and no stickers under the hood to tell me what the damn gap oughtta be.

please, anyone? Paul S.? are you there?
