do I need to drop the tank to replace the fuel pump? 900 92

Ok...I've finally done it. I've gotta change the fuel pump in the tank...or do I? I would greatly appreciate any advice. Here's the story...

My wife told me this afternoon that the 940 wouldn't start. So I got in, turned the key and the car ran - but miserably - barely turning over - whether at idle or full throttle, it seemed like it 250 RPMS. And there was this strange smell I was noticing, almost something burning. So the first thing I did was disconnected the catalytic converter - no change. Then I dumped a bit of fuel down the throttle body, and the car ran fine, stumbled and died. So I changed the fuel filter - it was completely stopped up. The engine still wouldn't run. And about this time, I noticed the fuel pump wasn't running (ooooops - shouldn't have pushed it earlier!) I must've burned up the in-tank pump. To make sure it wasn't the relay, I pulled it and connected a jumper wire from slot #30 to slot # 87/2 (?) - nothing. BTW, #30 was hot. Let me see it this works - I jumped it from A to Y in the diagram below:

Anyway, nothing. No operating fuel pump.

So, I'm 99% certain I've got to change the pump in the tank. But I wanted to make sure, 1) is this the only fuel pump on a 92 940? The FAQ said there were two pumps, but I looked everywhere and didn't see anything.

2) If I've got to change the pump in the tank, do I have to drop the tank completely to do it? It looks like I can remove the access panel in the trunk and be able to get to everything I need to....but I can't be certain.

The thing is, I've got 3/4 a tank of fuel, and would like to avoid draining it (I'm also at a loss to figure out how to drain it!)

3) Is there any tricks you guys could offer? Or should I not tackle the job?
