Increase boost on 1988 740 turbo 700 1988

Just seeking advice, I am getting a local performance mechanic to increase the boost on my 1988 740 intercooled turbo. It is only a mild tweak, upping the boost a maximum of 4 psi to a total of twelve but 10 or 11 psi is probably more realistic. He will put a boost guage and air/fuel mixture meter on it and tune it so that it runs rich enough that there won't be detonation. What are the drawbacks other than decreased turbo life? Is it worth doing? How much more power will I get? How much will it decrease the turbo's life? How much will it increase my fuel consumption?

I read somewhere that volvo brought out 242T's that ran a standard 12.5 psi? Is this right and does it mean that it is OK for my engine? I would be glad of any advice, you can get very technical if you want to, I want as much information as I can get. Thanks a lot.
