Pok-a-dot Windows? 700 87

I have a question regarding the pok-a-dot or spotted look of auto windows other than the windshield. When I put on very dark sun glasses I can see these blotche marks in car windows. Sort of an x-ray vision thing. In my 87 Volvo wagon I can see them on the driver/pax side front and rear windows. I also notice them on a 245 once while walking through a parking lot. Also saw them only on the rear window of a Nissan Sentra. Could this be heat temporing to the windows to make them stronger. Which brings the question, what is the status of Volvo side and rear windows. Are they a better quality safety wise than other makes?
