I can tell you I had a like experience with an Alfa Romeo. I took the solenoid out of the car, cleaned and lubricated it inside, and used silicone adhesive to seal out moisture and dirt before I bolted the solenoid together again. Back in the car it went and ran like a charm through many New York City summers and winters with salt on the road and all that. On the other hand, a Bosch alternator for your car was about $70 when I looked a couple of days ago at www.alloemvolvoparts.com
