Gas smell in cabin compartment - occasionally 900 1991

Hi,

I have a 1991 940GLE, 16 valve which runs fine except that sometimes, I can smell the petrol fumes in the cabin compartment. This usually happens whenever the tank has been top-up and/or after a prolonged parking in the hot sun (yeh... we live in hell like area, about 32 degree during the day time). A few weekends ago, I had opened the side covers in the trunk and sealed the surroundings of the overflow pvc hose. This is the hose that allows the excess of petrol from the re-fill area to flow out to the ground.

But the problem still persist, sometimes. I don't think the fume is coming from the engine because whenever I smell the fume I would open the trunk lid and there the fume smell is even worst.

Can somebody please let me know what to do. As a short-term measure I have not allowed my collegue to smoke in my car and have stopped driving nearby an open fire areas, for obvious reason. As for me hey! I am a non-smoker. Which is good otherwise I won't be writing this message to you guys.

thanks for your feedbacks.

velan
