Topic of the day - AMM sensor 740-760 86

ICQ>

.

What exactly does this thing do ?

On some cars (not VOLVOs) it dies suddenly. You can crank

the engine all you want, it will not start. If you disconnect it, engine

will start, and you can limp somewhere for help. I have the feeling

AMM sensor on my car (VOLVO 740T / 1986) is on the way out.

Car will occasionally die, will not start unless AMM is disconnected.

In this case it will fire and run rich in "limp" mode. If I shut the engine off

after few minutes, reconnect the AMM, it will fire again and run o.k.

untill the next time. How can I test the AMM to be sure it indeed is bad ?

Who wants to dish out $ 300 plus for a new one unless needed.

Also, I was quoted Bosh and Python (I'm not sure of the spelling) AMM

prices. One is twice as much as the other. Are they similar in quality ?

Yes, I will try cleaning the contacts first. BTW, Hall's sensor is new.

Thanks in advance.
