The first thing to look at when a tranny refuses to go into high gear is the down shift cable. This cable runs up to the throttle linkage. If the cable is pulled out and stuck in this position, the tranny will not shift into high gear. Check this out. I have repaired a number of cars with this problem. Often the cable is stuck and needs a good oiling to get it moving freely again. While at it, make sure it is adjusted properly.
