Re: Rough Idle and very basic oil questions 240-260 80

ICQ>

A number of things can cause these older but very sturdy engines to idle rough. They range from a gunked up throttle body to fouled injectors. Using a good fuel injector cleaner in the gas a couple times a years and using a good brand of gas does go a long way to keeping the fuel system running smooth. Besides helping the stalling problem, I found it helped the rough idle on my old 240s. Another thing you should look at is the seals on the injectors and the injector holders. These are o-rings that seal the injectors in the cylinder head. With age and heat, they get hard and start to leak air. This causes all kinds of mixture problems that results in stalling and rough idle. The parts are inexpensive, and installation is not that difficult. Installed them new injector seals on both of my old 240s and saw an immediate and lasting improvement.
