water on passenger side floor 700 1985

I bought this car a few months back and took it out for the first time in a heavy rain. After about 30 min. of driving I was seeing a small stream of water on the passenger side floor. I have not experienced this on my other Volvo. Is this a design problem that can be fixed or am I looking at a heater core problem that I was not aware of when I bought the car. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. DAN
