If there are a lot of miles on these carbs, then it is likely that the castings are worn where the throttle plate shafts pass through them. New gaskets will not help this problem and they will not produce a good idle.

I would strongly recommend that if they have not been rebuilt in recent years that you consider sending them up to Tom Bryant in W. Bath, ME - He will rebuild them completely including boring out the throttle shaft journals and installing oillite bronze bushings as well as improved teflon jet seals. I think that whole shebang is about $130 for both carbs including machine work and parts. Just be sure to clean them thoroughly before shipping - he charges extra if he has to clean them!
