On my 81 242 the sensor for the cold start idle system on my car is behind the distributor. I disconnected the air valve on the valve cover and my gas milage went up a bunch. It doesn't run as well until warm, but more MPG at the pump. My 80 had the cold start switch on the head , just below the #4 intake runner . Pretty hard to get too and cost close to $ 100. at last checking several years ago at the dealer.
