ahh, oil loss out of valve cover on return from long trip 200 82ti

Well

Friend and I installed many a parts on my 242, one being the intercooler and newer style valve cover. we must not have tightened down the valve cover nuts or the gasket was bad because being in boost made the oil leak from the exhaust side pretty bad.

so I tightened it up and stayed out of boost enough to get down to another friends house.

my question is, I have a new gasket. Is it appropriate to use some other kind of sealant between the gasket and the valve cover? should I check for flatness of the valve cover itself?

if I remember right the torque spec for the valve cover nuts is 15 ft-lbs, but dont know the sequence.

what are the recommendations for this? it was a little irritating starting to come home with the stuff installed and getting an oil leak with the new gasket.

thanks, take care

Luke
