backup lights 200 1985

Is there a way to adjust the backup light switch on a 1985 245? The Chilton book says there is no adjustment(Haynes doesn't mention it at all as far as I can see) and that the switch must be replaced if not functioning properly. On my 245 I can get the lights to function if I push the automatic gear selector towards the park position slightly as I back up, being careful not to put shifter all the way into park. Just by the way this occurs it would seem to me to have some sort of adjustability to it. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

Dan
