fuse for rear window defroster 200 1989

My 1989 240 wagon just passed 150,000 miles. Last week the 16 Amp fuse for the rear window defroster blew and upon replacement immediately blew again. Right now I am trying to determine what is causing the fuse to repeatly fail. I assume it is a short circuit cause by a broken or deteriorated wire. My question is this, is there a common fail point that I should concentrate my search on in order to correct this problem as quickly as possible??
