Alternator Brushes 700 89

Does anyone know how to replace the alternator brushes in the exterior brush/regulator assembly? This is from the 100 watt unit in turbos, and many late 80's non-turbos.

The brushes are available for about $5 each, but the way to open the assembly up is not obvious.
