Re: shifting hard...and misc. questions 1800 70

The clutch in that car is cable operated. Buy a Haynes Manual and they will tell you how to adjust the clutch ie cable. After adjusting the clutch, try changing the transmission oil. Between the clutch adjustment and new oil I bet everything will be great! You will be pleased to know that year was the only year that had the heavy duty transmission that was used in the six cylinder cars. I had a '70 E and loved the car until finally the rust monster got it. The Es are all high compression and very peppy. Get it tuned correctly and you'll really love it. Make sure the dwell for the points is set correctly to the E spec. Seems like I remember it being .0016 with a dwell of 58 - 64 degress and the timing is 10 degrees BTDC. The car will eat points due to the hot coil but the performance is worth it. Periodically run some fuel injector cleaner through it. I used Chevrons brand with techron in it. Be sure to check the fuel lines particularly the ones going from the fuel rail to the injectors. They periodically start leaking and squirt gas on the exhaust header. That could be a real disastor! Great buy! Good luck and E-Mail me if you have specific questions. I have owned three E's and did all of my own repairs so I know most of the idieocynricies of the car.
