Re: Throttle Body - Where is it? 200 1982

Well, mitch, no question is stupid.

You are right, sort of. The throttle cable wraps around the throttle spool.

on an '82, you have two choices of fuel injection, K-Jet or LH-Jet, but chances are pretty good that you have K-Jet. On a K-Jet car, the throttle body points straight down from the intake manifold. It looks somewhat like a carb.

So anyhow, the throttle spool attaches directly to the butterfly part of the throttle body.

Best bet: follow the air intake hoses back from the air filter housing. You'll need to remove at least some of these hoses anyhow to get the throttle body off. You will probably need to remove a vacuum line or two as well. label everything.

The throttle body is held on with 3 13mm nuts. the third one is a bear to get at on your car, but it's not impossible, either.

before you take it off, have a new gasket handy. Even your local Volvo dealer won't rip you off TOO much for one. reusing the gasket almost guarantees leaks. Bad.

Clean as per several zillion articles from the archives. reinstall.

Chances are pretty good that you will need to turn down the idle when you're done. A cruddy throttle body leads to a poor idle, and lots of rotten mechanics will just up the idle. I've cleaned throttle bodies and reinstalled them and found a 1500-2000 rpm idle!

Life is much better with a clean throttle body. I usually clean them upon purchase and then about every 30k miles thereafter.
