Re: timing belt 900 92

A 1992 960 must have its belt replaced every 20k miles unless a revised damper assembly has been fitted, in which case the interval is 30k miles. Your mechanic is not aware of the particulars of this engine and model year. The engine has an endemically weak timing belt that was not completely fixed until 1995. Volvo has several TSBs on this car and you have to pay close attention to the timing belt notes, as you unfortunately discovered. It is still a good car and you might go ahead and fix it again, just be very careful about future belt changes.
