Any help would be greatly appreciated to my frustrating starting problem.
I replaced the started motor last night. I re-connected the battery ground cable and attempted to start the car. The engine will not crank. I checked the battery and it reads 12.56 and it reads the same when my wife attempted to start the engine, but still no crank. Turned the head light while trying to start, NO crank and the light looked bright (I guess it indicated the battery is in a good condition). The engine started again after 30 minutes while I was sitting around trying to figure out what to do. I re-soldered the Fuel Pump relay and the voltage regulator a while back. The charging circuit works fine and gives out 14.08 to 14.12 from both the voltage regulator and battery with the engine speed up and down. The battery is brand new and it reads 12.52 even after 3 days of sitting in the garage. Well, since it started last night. We drove the car today for approx 20 min and parked for approx 40 min. The car will not crank when I attempted to re-start. NO EVEN A CRANK!! I used my finger to feel the "click" from the FP relay, NOTHING when I turned the key. The FP relay should click the monment before the engine cranks, but the FP relay apparently did not click. Then the car started like normal ONLY with a jump. I can also feel the click when the engine started. Drove to a church outing and the car started fine after a few hours sitting in the parking lot. Would there be something else causing this frustrating NO start? Are there anything else trigger the FP relay first before the engine cranks? In other words, "something else" need to be triggered before the FP relay triggers? May be that "something else" is not triggering and the FP relay cannot respond. During the no start period, I removed the FP relay and then attempted to start but the engine did not crank. After arriving home from the church outing, the engine re-started with NO problem, then I removed the FP relay and attempted to start the car, the engine cranked but cannot start - just checking the relay function. I re-inserted the FP relay and the engine started just fine. I know this frustrating no start problem will come back again, I could not think of anything, PLEASE HELP AND ANY SUGGESTION WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! I cannot understand why the engine will start with only a jump start. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
