Odd lack of acceleration 700 86

Today I filled the fuel tank to the brim, screwed on the WACO fuel tank cap the previous owner bought from IPD and drove the car 140 miles. I stopped and noticed the car had almost no acceleration when driving off from a stop or very low speed after a stop. It had less than normal but more bearable acceleration after it gathered speed, say 40mph. I drove into a gas station, filled up with gas, and when I drove off the car was back to normal. What happened, a vacuum in the gas tank? What is the remedy? Best regards.
