Dome Light Switch broken - how to replace? 200 1980

Somehow my college daughter managed to break the switch off the front dome light - luckily in the position so that when the door is opened the light does go on, which is much appreciated at night! Of course that is the only time I can get light from it. I would like to pick up another light at a wrecker's yard, but have not discovered a way to remove the dome cover, (it fits extremely tightly to the roof) let alone the switch and bulb part when I get the cover off. There must a simple trick to it. I am learning a great deal about my car, and how it works from this site, thanks to all the contributors for sharing their knowledge.
