Hi Ralph, I am about to do the same replacement on my '77 244, and have sought help in the actual work involved to complete the repair. If you are going to do your own repair, I suspect that you want to have the part/s on hand so you can do the repair in "one sitting" and be back on the road the same day! I am not familiar with the 1991 production, but my point is you may have to I.D. which steering rack your car came with in order to purchase the "corrent" replacement. In my experience, the '77 244 came with either manual or power steering (a question you are not facing) and the racks were produced by two different manufacturers, either CAM Gear or Z.F. Thus, I have a choice of 4 different tie rods per side. If anyone is interested, the Cam Gear rack has a female thread on the rod and a male thread on the rack where the tie rod attaches. The Z.F. is just the opposite. I was interested if anyone know the "best" way to seperate the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle? Most mechanics have an assortment of tools available to then for this purpose. I don't think one should put heat on that joint, since the ball joint is sealed and has a rubber cover for protection. Any suggestions from Group? Also, has anyone done this repair and purchased the tie rod at a "really good" price? Where did you get that price? Thanks, Webb
