Rear Whine 200 1992

Hi--

I am in need of some enlightenment. My 92 240 has started complaining at me...or perhaps my driving. There is an intermittent whine in the rear that develops over 80 km/hr...at this speed it's barely audible. At speeds over 100 km/hr you can tell it's there. It is most noticeable when I have my foot barely on the throttle and coasting down a hill (Cruise control will also make it "complain" too). I think it's not the centre bearing as I have already had that go out and I know what that sounds like--besides it sounds as if it's coming from the rear of the car. What do you think it is? Bad wheel bearing, change oil in the differential, or (gasp) new differential? Anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance for your help!
