transmission oil 140-160 1970

My 164's been shifting kinda hard lately, and I've noticed that

there's always some oil drips on the tranny drain plug. I decided

to drain it today, and it smelled funny and had some weird stuff

in it; lots of metal filings on the plug and soot looking stuff

in the oil and also what look like a couple of boogers.

Also, not a whole lot of this stuff actually came out of the

transmission. How much should go in it?

I put in some mobile motor oil -- mobile 1 15-50. I figure

it will at least flush the goop out. I have a single quart of

the amsoil 90 something gear oil.

I realize it probably doesn't matter too much, but what sort of

stuff should be put into the M400 transmission? Will the mobil

stuff hurt anything?
