The rear ATE calipers do need the shims. Coat both sides with the hi-temp grease. Also, touch the edges with it, where they will rub top and bottom withing the caliper. Be sure to rush out all the brake dust from the caliper contact surfaces and press those pistons back into their bores to relube them with the brake fluid to stave off corrosion.

On the front Girling calipers, I don't use shims. I spray the *backs* of the pads with Permatex Disc Wuiet and have great results.
