engine swap 200 88

i have an 88 240 gl with a dying transmission... a friend will sell me his 84 240 wagon (with no engine) for next to nothing. the transmission is fine ( they are both autos) --- is it possible to stick the engine from my sedan into the wagon? will the transmission mate up to the block? would there have to be any alterations done to the engine bay? i seem to think there will be no problem... any information will be greatly appreciated.
