Check to make sure that when the engine is at top dead center(when all of the crank, cam, and intermediate gear marks are lined up properly) that your distributor rotor is pointing to the number one sparkplug wire terminal in the distributor cap. Do you have a timing light? You could check the timing while cranking the engine to make sure it is set right. Check the above and let us know what you find.
