Should I Be Alarmed by Deep-Tone Engine Knock? 200 85

Hi Bricksters,

Upon starting my 1985 240 turbo, I can here a deep knocking sound from the engine. Strangely, it goes away when I depress the clutch. The sound is not as pronounced once the car has been running a while. Am I in for something catastrophic!? (bad piston, rod etc) Bentley's says something about the crankshaft thrust bearing as a culprit...common? And it ain't the gas...I use high octane.

Thanks to those who can help....thanks to Don, Bob and others for their past help!
