I have a few questions about our new addition to the family, a 1970 144s.
1. The engine has 90K original miles and runs decent (although it could probably use a tune-up). When I start the engine cold and when I'm driving slowly, there is absolutely no smoke from the engine, but after a long drive, restarting while still hot, a puff of blue smoke comes out every time. Also, when I'm going down hill and shift down to slow the car down with the engine, the engine starts smoking out the exhaust, stinks and backfires. It also runs sometimes when I turn it off. Could this just be a valve/carb/timing adjust or does it sound like worn engine parts?
2. Has anyone tried sound deadening material on the firewall or under the hood? Did it help? What type do I get?
3. The factory A/C in the car doesn't blow cold, are these units worth charging? Do they work well?
4. I'm getting a lot of squeeks and a slightly loose feeling from the rear end. I'm in the process of replacing the shocks, but I also bought some trailing-arm bushings. How hard are these bushings to replace? Do I need any special tools? How about other bushings, which other ones should I replace (and where do I buy them)?
