Are there any threads showing on the the tubes top nut at this point? Do you think the clunk is from the insert moving up and down in the tube even with the nut drawn down? It would seem that a clunk that was being caused by the insert moving in the tube would be able to be detected after the top nut was in place. I wish I had an answer for you.
