Re: Intermitent Enigne Stalling /no hot start 740-760 1987

ICQ>

Richard, I had problem with my 92 944 that sounds similar. When the temperature was hot above 85 degrees outside, and the car was warmed up, it would not hold its idle when restarted. I had to lightly rev it for 3-5 minutes and then would catch idle and go. Most people thought it was a fuel problem or computer problem, but no clear ideas. Reading the board I heard about a problem someone was having with a suction sound when they removed the fuel tank cap. I had this same suction in my 944 when removing the cap. When the cap goes bad (I didnt know these things could fail) the fuel pump strains to get fuel especially when its hot as the vaccum is increased. Anyway, I put a new fuel cap on and have not had any more problems. The original cap was green and was part metal. The new one is black an all plastic. Volvo's seem to have alot problems with pressure caps such as this and the radiator cap. Small items that are frequently over looked but cause large problems.
