I believe the last year for the 242 (and 242 Turbo) was 1984 (I may stand corrected).

The 1984-1985 240 Turbos were intercooled and have a higher boost setting than the non-intercooled 1981-1983 models (162 hp versus 127). The intercooled 240 Turbos are fun to drive and offer pretty decent performance, especially with the manual gearbox.

While the 1987 and later 740/760/780/940 Turbos had the more-reliable water-cooled turbochargers, all of the 240 Turbos had older, oil-cooled turbochargers. Reliability had a lot to do with how well the engine was maintained, particularly with 3,000 mile interval oil changes. The turbocharger will usually expire at some point, usually somewhere between 80,000 to 100,000 miles (can be higher or lower depending on the care of the engine). If the turbo on a prospective 240T hasn't been replaced at some point, expect to replace it soon.

I believe there are water-cooled turbo replacements for the 240 Turbos.
