Re: What are correct tire pressures? 240-260 89

ICQ>

I must disagree, the tire pressure should always be what the car manufacturer suggest. These figures are simple mathematics considering the weight of the car and the surface of contact of tire on the ground in order to get proper tire wear and handling (the tire manufacturer is not a factor). Of course these figures do not consider excessive weight in the car for this would require more pressure. The number on the tire is the maximum pressure the tire can handle at a given load, it doesn't have anything to do with the air pressure one should put in the tire for driving around town (this number doesn't even consider the weight of the car).

Personally, i prefer to inflate my tires a bit harder in the summer for better handling and a bit softer during winter for better traction in snow (i live north of Montreal). This doesn't always give me perfect tire wear but i'm willing to pay the price.

Keep on Volvoing.
