First, turn engine clockwise and then loosen and retighten bolt for tensioner. This will ensure that the belt is tensioned correctly. Then start it and see if noise is gone.

If not, then stop engine remove belt cover and turn engine until the crankshaft cam belt pulley mark on the lip on edge of timing belt pulley is pointing straight up towards center bolt of camshaft (straight up if engine weren't tilted to passenger side a few degrees, so straight up actually becomes pointed at cam bolt). The mark on cam should also be pointed straight up on this same established axis, i.e., a straight line through crank center bolt and cam center bolt projected above engine would fall on the cam mark and the crank pulley washer mark. If this is not the case your cam is not in time.

Excatly what does this noise sound like and does it fade when you rev it up?
