M410 is the number of trans+OD as a unit (If no OD it's called M400)

Overdrive works on oil pressure build in the OD unit from Oil in trans and OD.

there is a bit of s sill between trans and OD, however if the oil in the trans is low it will not get into the OD. Check the level in the trans and top it up, drive it around and check again(may need more topping off).

Also check screen filter in OD (square plate on bottom) and of course wires to solenoid. the M410 is a more robust version of the M41 usually found on later 1800 and 140. M410 was also used on 164's. M410(400) has roller bearings on the counter shaft M40&M41 has needle bearings there. Internal parts are not interchangeble.
