Hot air line to air cleaner box... why?

ICQ>115291

I've read all the problems associated with a bad thermostat for the 'door' which allows the hot air into the cleaner. Why even bother with this if one lives in a mild climate? How low do temps need to be for the hot air to be a necessity? I'd like to simply disconnect mine and point the thing toward the wheel well or something. Why gamble? Is there any detriment to disconnecting the metal tube and pointing it away from the hot air box on the manifold? Silly question?

Tom
