Turbo problem 240-260 1984

ICQ>

I rarely mash the throttle but today I got into it on my '84 Turbo w/IC and found the boost gauge needle only went slightly into the 'yellow zone'.

About 6 months ago I replaced all hoses to the wastegate and overpressure solenoid valve etc. and I'm wondering if I made mistake on these hoses.

Here's the current hose routing: from the 'output' of the IC (input of throttle body) hose goes to a 'Tee' near the wastegate, from the 'Tee' a short section of hose goes to the wastegate actuator, from the other side of the 'Tee' a hose goes to the fitting of the overpressure solenoid valve....this fitting is the one that faces the passenger side strut tower, from the other fitting of the overpressure solenoid valve (the one pointing towards the drivers side) another hose goes to the metal pipe at the discharge side of the airbox which is the turbo inlet.

I disconnected the wastegate actuator rod and the wastegate operates freely. I did have to extend the actuator rod about 1/4" to get it back onto the wastegate arm however.

I disconnected one of these hoses (the one from the 'output' of the IC) and used a bike tire pump to apply pressure to the wastegate actuator.....the wastegate opened at about 15-20 psi and did not leak down.

So it looks as though either my hose routing is bad or the wastegate actuator takes too much pressure to open or there is a leaky hose. I do not think there is a leaking hose since the pressure test I did did not bleed down and the hoses are in excellent condition.

What's the fix and how much do I owe you??

Phil
