Breaking of new Alternator Belt 700 1988

Hey guys,

I installed a new timing belt about a month back. I used the recomended 1/4 inch deflection rule to adjust the tension.

After 1 month(approx. 2,000K) it snapped. Does anyone have any reasons why this could happen to a new belt.

Is it possible for the Alternator to cease up?

My alternator is original(13yrs old) but still gives excellent voltage so I don't see the need to replace it.

Thank You,

Joe
