Wiring Short in '91 240 240-260 91

ICQ>

Here's one for all you detectives. It's got me AND my mechanic stumped:

I have a short in my 1991 240 wagon. It's in the steering column somewhere. When a make a hard turn, like on an on-ramp, or if I pull slightly on the steering wheel at around the 2 o'clock position, the radio and intertior fan cut out. They come right back on when I let go or come out of the turn. My local mechanic has snooped around a bit, but is hesitant about taking the whole thing apart without having any idea what to look for.

Any ideas?
