Transmission filter and fluid replacement, what is recommended? 200 1990

I have my company car oil changed at the local Juffy Lube. I asked them about a trans service they said that unless the fluid and filter has been changed on a regular basis then it is not recommended to drop the pan and change the filter and fluid, but to use their expensive pump to draw out the old fluid and replace it witout dropping the pan. I don't know when the trans fluid was last changed but am considering

doing the job myself ???
