740GL (B230F) starting difficulties 700 1990

Since some time it is difficult to start the car when the engine is warm an also sometimes when I release the trottle the engine has a "hick-up".

I had the car checked by the Volvo dealer but they could not fix the problem and they told me that it could be a result of some loss of compression caused by the numerous miles the car did. I thought they where right until both problems (they must be linked) disappeared suddenly last month for 3 days and then it re-appeared as before.

Any suggestions to solve this problem would be very appreciated.
