Re: A/C dead as door nail .... 740-760 86

The most common leak(s) I find around here, is the high pressure hose from the compressor or fittings around the accumulator. The h.p. hose usually fails close to the compressor where it clamps to the thing that is supposed to keep that from happening. R134 does work well, and the conversion kit costs around $55.00, if you already have a fill valve near the accumulator. If you dont have provision for the fill valve, that part is another $22.00. The conversion kit includes a new accumulator, so if that's where your leak is, you're 1/2 way there. It's no major operation to convert, so it shouldn't break the bank. The good news is that if you ever get another leak, instead of losing $120.00 worth(?) of R12, you lose about $20.00 worth of R134. The trick w/R134 is use the right amount. My wife's 86 765 T will freeze your face off w/R134 and we live in the Mojave desert. Here it gets HOTTER than Hell.
