Re: Cam question 200 1991

The H is higher lift than the K. Maybe 0.472 versus 0.471. I assume duration and intake opening/closing specs also differ. I believe these are symmetrical cams, meaning intake and exhaust specs are the same.

The VX3 is a V on the intake and an X on the exhaust and the settings are advanced 3 degrees from what would be a stock key in order to shift the power band down in the rpm range slightly. The V and X and the VX are lower lift than the H and K. Maybe around 0.440. The cam is asymmetrical, meaning intake and exhaust are different, hence the different letter designations of VX.

The VX3 is reportedly much more streetable in daily driving and offers a nice compromise between a stock non performance grind and the H or K.

They will all fit in your head. Any B21/B23/B230 head. However, if you have a rear mounted distributor (head mount) and the cam does not have a distributor drive gear, it will not work. No problem on a 240 with the front mount distributor, but a potential problem on a 740/940 with the head mount distributor.

If you want a modern design cam that does not need a cam gear in order to work well in daily driving, consider contacting Mike Aaro/Unitek in Sweden. A link to his company and his e-mail and phone can be found at the Turbobricks website under Sources. If you have to buy the cam gear to be happy with the VX3, you might be better off with a cam that does not need radical adjustment and ths cost might not be much more for the modern cam than for the old cam with the gear.
