3 Engine Problems 1800 1970

I am having a problem re-starting my 1800. When I turn the key, after it has been running and the engine is hot, the car does not re-start. I replaced the old starter which had gone bad w/a new rebuilt one a few months ago and everything worked fine. But now this problem has developed. I have checked and cleaned the battery connections. Could the "new" starter be bad? Also, when coasting down a long hill with my foot off the gas pedal, the car backfires alot. When I put my foot lightly on the gas pedal, it goes away. What causes this? Finally, the engine intermittantly misses during highway driving. Could this be the points or the fuel injection system? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks
