Problems with wagon rear side window trim installation 200 81

Greetings, All!

Today I removed the right rear side window from my '81 245 to attend to some rust. In my haste to install it (and it went in really easily), I had forgotten to reinstall the three metal trim strips to the big fat rubber gasket. I tried for 90 minutes to get these in their respective grooves. The bottom chrome strip is on, I'm convinced the forward black straight vertical will go on as well, but the combined top and rear vertical and bottom rear corner piece has got me befuddled. I've lubed everything up with dish detergent, I've poked and prodded with a screwdriver, my thumbs are numb from pushing... How does this silly piece go on? Am I fated to remove the window again to install the trim on a flexible gasket? I sure hope not...

Thanks in advance.

Rob
